Transport for NSW today announced the launch of a new Transport Heritage Grants Program open to individuals and not for profit organisations.

People with a passion for transport heritage are invited to apply for grants that will help fund projects to conserve and restore heritage assets or educate the community about the history of transport in NSW and how it has influenced the development of our State.

“Rail heritage organisations make up the largest part of the transport heritage sector and the grants program will initially focus on supporting these groups. We are also encouraging other not for profit bus and tram heritage groups, professional and local historians, as well as researchers, educators, writers and individuals to apply,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.

Transport Heritage NSW Chief Executive Andrew Killingsworth welcomed the NSW Government’s initiative to provide funding support to the transport heritage sector.

“Not for profit organisations and volunteers are the lifeblood of our sector.

“The Transport Heritage Grants Program will help fund the good work volunteers do every day in looking after valuable heritage assets and sharing their knowledge and stories with the community,” Mr Killingsworth said.

The Minister for Transport and Infrastructure will determine grants this year based on recommendations provided by Transport for NSW. The Royal Australian Historical Society will administer the program and will be the point of contact for applicants and recipients.

“These grants will help the heritage sector and the broader community to rediscover the culture, the events and the people that shaped transport in NSW over the past 160 years as well as support restoration and conservation of our priceless heritage assets so they can be enjoyed by future generations,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.

For further information about how to apply for grants or obtain an application form go to the Royal Australian Historical Society website External website.

Applications close on 5 October 2015.
