Transport for NSW today encouraged the community to provide feedback on plans for a major accessibility upgrade at Broadmeadow Station.
“Plans for the first major upgrade of Broadmeadow Station in more than 40 years are now on public display,” a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
“The upgrade means customers will have lift access for the first time. Other benefits include new weather protection canopies, footpath upgrades, better security features such as lighting and CCTV, and improved signage.
“This is great news for customers and will make using public transport even easier, particularly for the elderly, people with a disability and parents with prams.”
As part of the planning approvals process, the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) is on public display from 12 October until 26 October 2015.
The REF provides details about construction of the project, including measures to minimise construction noise, traffic, heritage and environmental impacts on the local community.
“The public display is your chance to have your say on the project,” the spokesperson said.
Two community information sessions will take place at Broadmeadow Station on:
- Tuesday, 13 October from 4 pm to 6 pm, and
- Thursday, 15 October from 8 am to 10 am
The accessibility upgrade is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure.
Subject to planning approval, work is expected to start by the middle of next year and be completed in 2017. Award of a design and construct contract is expected later this year.
The REF documents are now available to view at 239 King Street, Newcastle, as well as online at www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au and the Transport for NSW website.
